Slidell Christmas Events 2017

December in and around Slidell is full of great events to share with your family, experiencing pure holiday magic. Don’t let the end of the year pass by without taking the opportunity to enjoy our city and make Christmas memories.

Check out some of these great family-friendly events happening in and around town.

Christmas Under The Stars

Griffith Park, 333 Erlanger St., Slidell
December 2nd-3rd, 9th-10th, 6 pm to 9 pm    Admission is FREE

Kids of all ages can get into the holiday spirit at eastern St. Tammany’s prime light-viewing shindig, Christmas Under the Stars. The free holiday fest features twinkling lights and festive decorations, a parade of trees, entertainment, life size Christmas cottages, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The four day celebration begins on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2, and resumes on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9th.

Heritage Park, 1701 Bayou Lane in Olde Towne next to US Post Office

December 14 – 23 from  6pm -10pm

Admission is FREE

Slidell Bayou Christmas is a magical celebration to raise money and awareness for the Slidell Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana.  There are Light Displays animated to holiday music,  food and drinks prepared by local restaurants available for purchase, and live entertainment from local groups, churches and schools. There are also free kiddie rides, hand crafted gifts available for purchase, and last but not least photos with Santa.


Eden Isles Boat Parade

Eden Isles Subdivision Slidell, Louisiana
Saturday, December 16, 2017  begins at 6 pm

Festively decorated boats will light up the night in the Eden Isles canals.  More details about the parade will be available soon and can be found here.

The orchestra’s conductor since 2006 is Mrs. Susan Messina, a Slidell native who has a master’s degree in music and over 30 years of experience as a music educator and band director. The Northshore Community Orchestra (formerly the Slidell Youth & Community Orchestra), part of the Clearwood Junior High Community Education Program through the St. Tammany Parish school system, is the only symphony orchestra in St. Tammany Parish where both youths and adults can make learning and performing music a lifelong endeavor. The orchestra was established in 1987.

Heritage Park, 1701 Bayou Lane, Slidell

Saturday, December 16th, 7 pm. “The Polar Express”

Admission is FREE, but ice chests will not be allowed during this event. Food and drinks are available for purchase. The movie will take place during Slidell’s Bayou Christmas in Heritage Park. The City of Slidell and Leadership Northshore presents Slidell Movie Night for the holidays, a community- and family-focused outdoor movie night in Heritage Park.

St. Luke Music Ministry 20th Anniversary Christmas Concert

Saturday, December 9th from 7:30pm – 9pm

St. Luke The Evangelist Church: 910 Cross Gates Blvd, Slidell, LA

FREE to the entire community, seats are extremely limited. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and we recommend arriving early to make sure you get a great seat!

NPAS PRESENTS “Here We Come A-Caroling”

The Northlake Performing Arts Society (NPAS) will present “Here We Come A-Caroling,” at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 8th at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 2480 US 190, Mandeville, and at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 10th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 400 Westchester Blvd, Slidell

NPAS will carol into the night at our December performance singing carols you will all be familiar with such as “Bring a Torch Jeanette, Isabella,” “Silent Night,” “Carol of the Bells,” and “The Little Drummer Boy.” Then we will sing some interesting and fun arrangements of other known carols like “Deck the Halls in 7/8,” “Silver Bells,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” This will be a wonderful evening of Holiday caroling.

These concerts are free to the public. Donations are gratefully appreciated. NPAS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization

The Happy Elf

Slidell Little Theatre, 2024 Nellie Dr, Slidell, LA

A new musical comedy by the Grammy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated composer and lyricist, Harry Connick, Jr.’s tells the tale of Eubie the Elf, a lovable fellow who wants to spread Christmas joy throughout the town of Bluesville. Hoping to introduce a new generation of children to the joys of jazz, Connick has crafted a musical landscape against which Eubie’s story unfolds.  Eubie the Elfloves working in Santa Claus’ workshop up at the North Pole, despite the other elves’ complaints about being annoyed by his overly happy personality. One Christmas Eve morning, Eubie’s boss, Norbert, assigns him to checking the naughty and nice lists. However, while checking the lists, Eubie discovers that every child in the town of Bluesville is naughty. So, he decides to go to Bluesville and spread Christmas cheer.

Southern Youth Ballet presents The Nutcracker

A Holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, is returning to Slidell Little Theatre for three performances only. Celebrate the magic of the Christmas season with friends, family and the Sugar Plum Fairy as you visit the Land of the Sweets.

December 16th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and December 17th at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and are available here.

Saturday, December 9th, 3pm – 9pm

Christmas Village Shopping Extravaganza will be held in the Slidell Auditorium (2056 Second Street) and outside in the parking lot. All shops in Old Town will also be open. 

At 6pm, Christmas in Old Towne will showcase an evening of shopping, fine and casual dining, live music and holiday cheer.

There will be Christmas Lights in the Park, Christmas Caroling throughout Old Town, 2 Trolley’s running, and SO MUCH MORE.

Presented by the Slidell Antique Association, Old Towne Slidell Association, Carey Street Coalition, Old Towne Slidell Main Street and the City of Slidell

The Slidell Historic Antique District will have their annual Olde Towne Slidell Christmas Market on Dec 2-3 from 10am – 3pm. Come get your holiday shopping done – we’ll have free gift wrapping and shipping available for your purchases, and our neighbors will have booths out front featuring a variety of collectible, handmade, vintage items.

Come do some shopping, talking, dancing, playing on Carey Street. Featuring over 30 leauxcal food, art, crafts, etc. vendors and live music.


Santa Meets Sousa Holiday Concert

Tuesday, December 5th at 7pm – 8:30pm at Northshore Harbor Center

Join the New Orleans Marine Corps Band in celebrating the holiday season by attending the “Santa Meets Sousa” Holiday Concert!
The concert is FREE and open to the public and tickets are NOT needed.

Marine Corps Band New Orleans’ holiday concerts are in association with the Marine Forces Reserve Toys for Tots campaign and new, unwrapped toys are greatly appreciated but not required for entrance.

Saturday, December 16th from 2pm – 6pm;        61389 LA 434, Lacombe, LA 70445

Join Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges, Inc. ,Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges staff and volunteers at Cajun Christmas! Santa and Mrs. Claus will make their annual visit to the refuge’s visitor center to meet with kids of all ages. Story-time, nature themed crafts, cookies and FREE photos with Santa will be available during this special visit. Free admission.

Kid’s can decorate their own Gingerbread Cookie for free! Find the decorating table in Rouses Bakery. Open to children ages 10 and under.

2017 Krewe of Jingle Parade

Saturday, December 2  beginning at 1pm

New Orleans’ official holiday parade, the “Krewe of Jingle,” brought to you by, The Roosevelt New Orleans, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel will once again delight locals and visitors alike with authentic parade floats, marching bands, Christmas characters and many more magical surprises! It’s one of my family’s favorite Christmas events!
