December in Slidell is full of great events to share with your family, experiencing pure holiday magic. Don’t let the end of the year pass by without taking the opportunity to enjoy our city and make Christmas memories.

1. NPAS PRESENTS “HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS”

NPAS will be performing your favorite holiday carols such as “Away in A Manger,” “Angels, We Have Heard on High,” and “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.”  We will also be singing some new arrangements of a few familiar songs. The concert closes with an exciting choral piece that combines “Jingle Bells” and “Hallelujah Chorus” from Messiah.

2. SANTA PICTURES

Santa arrives on November 12th. He will be available for photos and meet and greets through the holiday season.

3. CHRISTMAS UNDER THE STARS

Christmas Under The Stars

Griffith Park, 333 Erlanger St., Slidell
December 2nd-3rd, 9th-10th, 6 pm to 9 pm

Kids of all ages can get into the holiday spirit at eastern St. Tammany’s prime light-viewing shindig, Christmas Under the Stars. The free holiday fest features cheery lights and decorations, a parade of trees, entertainment, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The Christmas cottages are life-size displays that allow visitors a peek into scenes such as Santa’s workshop or a nativity. Also, take a moment to ignite your holiday imagination by viewing the Christmas train and village display, open to the public at City Hall, just steps away from Griffith Park.

4. SLIDELL’S BAYOU CHRISTMAS

Heritage Park, 1701 Bayou Lane in Olde Towne next to US Post Office

Presented by the Boys and Girls Club. We will have Light Displays animated to holiday music. Food and drinks prepared by local restaurants. Live entertainment from our local groups, churches and schools. Hand Crafted gifts and last but not least photos with Santa.

5. LPO PRESENTS “YULETIDE CELEBRATION”

The LPO’s annual holiday celebration returns to Jefferson, Hammond, and Slidell, featuring yuletide favorites perfect for the entire family! Bring your holiday spirit and caroling voice, as the LPO is led by guest conductor Julian Pellicano and joined by school choirs from across the greater New Orleans region.

6. A CHRISTMAS TRADITION AND EVENING OF HOLIDAY FUN

“A Christmas Tradition” brings you holiday glitz and glitter with a 2-hour performance. The theatre is transformed into a perfect holiday picture, sharing memories of the Christmas standards that you know and love. Sprinkle in a little comedy and audience participation for the greatest event of the season.

Holiday-themed skits, crooning jazz carols, Singalong holiday carols – audience participation encouraged (but not required!).

7. EDEN ISLES HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE

Festively decorated boats will light up the night in the Eden Isles canals.  Boats wishing to participate should meet at the Tammany Yacht Club dock in Oak Harbor Marina at 6:30 pm. The parade will leave the dock at 7 pm.

The parade, which traditionally takes place on the Saturday night before Christmas, is not sponsored by any particular organization. All Shoreline residents who decorate their boats are invited to participate and each are responsible for their own insurance and proper safety measures.

8. NORTHSHORE COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA HOLIDAY CONCERT

The City of Slidell invites you to attend a Holiday Concert with the Northshore Community Orchestra on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium, 2055 Second St.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. Seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Admission is free, but donations to support the Northshore Community Orchestra are appreciated.

The orchestra’s conductor since 2006 is Mrs. Susan Messina, a Slidell native who has a master’s degree in music and over 30 years of experience as a music educator and band director. The Northshore Community Orchestra (formerly the Slidell Youth & Community Orchestra), part of the Clearwood Junior High Community Education Program through the St. Tammany Parish school system, is the only symphony orchestra in St. Tammany Parish where both youths and adults can make learning and performing music a lifelong endeavor. 9. SLIDELL MOVIE NIGHTS

The City of Slidell and Leadership Northshore presents Slidell Movie Night for the holidays, a community- and family-focused outdoor movie night in Heritage Park.

10. SLIDELL LITTLE THEATRE: THE NUTCRACKER

Southern Youth Ballet presents The Nutcracker

A Holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, is returning to Slidell Little Theatre for three performances only. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Currently, the SLT website says tickets may be purchased at the door as opposed to last year they could be bought ahead online. Get there early, each performance will sell out!
