Fall brings delightful treats along with a welcome change in weather after our long hot summers here in Slidell, and in surrounding areas.

October is a big month for family events, we hope you can get out and enjoy!

 

MAYOR FREDDY DRENNAN’S 14th ANNUAL

WILD GAME-SEAFOOD-BBQ COOKOFF

Saturday, September 30, 2017 11am-4pm at Slidell’s Fritchie Park

This event features lots of great food, a live and silent auction, raffle, a kid zone and live music by Witness. All proceeds raised at the cookoff will stay within our community to help Community Christian Concern fulfill their mission of “Touching One Life at a Time”

Admission: $15 Advance Adult Tickets ($20 @ the door Day of Event); $5 Children 7-12

The Patch is open through Oct. 31 – Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and on Sundays, noon to 7 p.m. Field trips and volunteer opportunities may be arranged by calling 985.643.6437.

2017 St. Tammany Parish Fair

October 4 –7, 2017    Covington Fairgrounds, Columbia Street

Livestock shows, a Mini Farm, baby and beauty pageants, gospel music, cheer and dancing competitions, over 3 dozen Midway rides, great food, live music, handcrafted items, baked and canned goods, the rodeo, and so much more!

Admission Costs: $ 2 entrance fee after 3PM; $15 all-day Midway Rides on Friday; $20 all-day Midway Rides Saturday and Sunday.  Transportation/Parking: FREE

MRS. HEATHER’S PUMPKIN PATCH

September 23 – November 8th: Monday- Friday 9am – 5pm & Saturday – Sunday 10am – 5pm

Admission: Kids (newborn & up): $7 per child; Adults:  Free

Admission includes: a pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch, zip line, jumping pillow, tunnel slides, face painting, duck racing, pedal tractors, cotton growing, hay maze, and lots more. Bring a picnic lunch and spend the day!

CORN MAZE AND PUMPKIN PATCH

September 30th – October 29th     Fridays (6pm-9pm) and Saturdays (11am-9pm) Southern Promiseland Farm, Kiln Mississippi

CASH ONLY: Ages 12 & Up $8; Ages 3-11 $7; Ages 2 & under FREE with paying adult. Attractions include: 10-acre corn maze, cow milking simulation, hayrides, farm animals, play and picnic area, pumpkin patch, grass maze, cow trains, and a one of a kind Farm Scene investigation.

OLDE TOWNE PUMPKIN FESTIVAL 

First United Methodist Church: 433 Erlanger Ave., Slidell    Saturday, October 21, 2017 – 11am-4pm

Proceeds benefit East St Tammany Rainbow Child Care Center, a non-profit United Way Partner Agency.

Free admission includes: Fire Truck, SWAT Vehicle, Saints Super Fan DJ T-Bone, Alligators, Firefighter’s Challenge, and much more. . .

Olde Towne Pumpkin Festival

 

CAREY ST CRAWL

October 10, 2017, 5-9:30PM

The Carey Street Crawl is a grassroots effort to revitalize Olde Towne…”Leauxcal” art, crafts, vendors, music, shopping, kid activities, pet adoptions, and more.  Carey Street Coalition is made up of local businesses on Carey in Olde Towne Slidell, hosting a monthly “CRAWL” the first Friday of every month.  The Crawl takes place on the 2200 Block of Carey (between Robert Street and Cousin) from 5-9:30pm. This will be the opportunity for the local businesses and artist to showcase their work.

FUN AFTER FOUR: PUMPKIN DECORATING

St. Tammany Parish Library: South Slidell Location; October 11, 2017, 4-5:30pm: Ages 5-8, 8-11

Come in any time between 4:00 and 5:30 to decorate your own mini pumpkin and watch Spooky Buddies (rated PG). No food will be served. Registration not required. Children ages 9 and under may not be left unattended at any St. Tammany Parish Library.

DINNER & A FLICK: THE PRINCESS BRIDE

Watch “The Princess Bride” (PG) outside on the big screen, make your own bubble wand, & enjoy dinner from a local food truck in the herb garden. Bring your blanket/chairs & enjoy your picnic dinner!

BRAS FOR A CAUSE

October 12, 2017 6-9pm Northshore Harbor Center

Tickets are $50 in advance OR $60 at the door and include food, open bar, and lots of fun!  Local businesses sponsor & donate decorated bras for our local business MEN to model for auction!

ALL PROCEEDS go to local women fighting breast cancer. Over the past 5 years over $75,000 was donated from this annual event to local charities to help with breast cancer treatment/awareness.

WILD THINGS 2017

Saturday, October 14, 2017, 10am – 4pm at Southeast Louisiana Refuge Headquarters: 61389 Hwy 434, Lacombe

Explore the wild things of Louisiana at this FREE family-friendly event. Children can build a birdhouse, learn to canoe, see live animals, fish for prizes, take a pontoon boat ride of the Bayou, enjoy a variety of exhibits and hands activities, see Louisiana native animals, and more. Food is available for purchase.

9TH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

October 20, 2017 Pinewood Country Club    Check-In & Lunch begins at 11 AM. Tee Time begins at 12 PM.

All proceeds will be used to Keep Slidell Beautiful’s community improvments and beautification projects.

Krewe of Boo is New Orleans’ Official Halloween Parade. The parade is free and kid-friendly. This Spooktacular event starts on Elysian Fields and ends at Generations Hall.

MONSTER MASH 2017

Saturday, October 21   11am – 3pm   Bogue Falaya Park, Covington

Tickets are available in advance (ends 10/20/17) at www.stph.org/MonsterMash and all proceeds benefit the STPH Parenting Center.

Monster Mash allows families with children of all ages to enjoy a day of fall fun. Activities include the Trick-or-Treat Village, games, arts & crafts, live entertainment, including a performance by Bag of Donuts, food, shopping, and more!

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW

The Rocky Horror Freak show is a musical that takes place in a side show circus tent. A humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror movies of the late 1940s to the early 1970s.

BAYOU JAM HALLOWEEN BASH FEATURING VINCE VANCE AND THE VALIANTS’

October 29, 2017 5:30-7:30pm Heritage Park

It has become one of the most anticipated of all City of Slidell events: the annual Bayou Jam Halloween Bash featuring Vince Vance and the Valiants’ and Halloween and fall-themed activities for the family. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and costumes.

Vince Vance and the Valiants’ stage show is a visual voyage through five decades of music. Starring the maestro of ceremonies, Vince Vance, this wholesome, fun-loving, musical stage revue is filled with colorful costumes, choreography and hilarious bouts of audience participation that are sure to entertain kids of all ages.

Children will want to sit close to the stage so they can become part of the show.

October 28-29, 2017 10am -5pm

This two-day family event ranges all over First, Second and Erlanger Streets in Olde Towne Slidell from 10am  – 5pm daily ;  free parking

BOO FEST 2017

Saturday, October 28 10am – 9pm   Lakeview Regional Medical Center

Gates open at 9am for special needs families.

This popular North Shore event benefits children with disabilities and their families, but is open to children of all abilities. Trick-or-treat at more than 60 Haunted Houses, games for kids of all abilities, arts & crafts, a costume contest, food, and more.

This is a safe, fun-filled Halloween event for children featuring trick-or-treat houses with candy, a ghost train (which can be scary for children and adults), a haunted house (scary and non-scary), Monster Maze by a-MAZE-ing, inflatables, Star Wars characters, games, entertainment, animal encounters, carousel ride, and more. All games and treats, except concessions, are free with admission.

Tickets: $17 per person (adult or child). Handling fees apply. Adults and children 12 months and older must purchase tickets. Children under 12 month of age are admitted free. A limited number of tickets are sold each night; the event usually sells out.

Ghost in the Oaks

New Orleans, City Park   October 20-22

This spook-tacular two-night Halloween fundraising event hosted by the Friends of City Park offers non-scary fun for the whole family, including unlimited rides in Carousel Gardens, trick-or-treating in Storyland, arts and crafts, a pumpkin patch, airbrush tattoos, balloon animals, music and more! All proceeds from Ghosts in the Oaks go toward capital improvements in Carousel Gardens and Storyland.
